Starfish Scholarship Program, helping one at a time!

The Scholarship Program is going well and we have a record 151 scholarship recipients this school year, a 41% increase over last year. This year, we have 6 students in University, 20 in High School, 123 in Middle School and two in Elementary School. So far, we received donations in the amount of $30,295, just short of the required funds of $31,742. (click on chart #1 below)

The Starfish Scholarship Scholarship Program, which was started in 2005, has been very successful as can be seen on the graph (click on chart #2 below). As of the end of December 2009: University: Total of 7 recipients, 1 graduated and 6 are still attending. High School: Total of 32 recipients, 7 graduated, 20 are still attending and 5 did not finish. Middle School: Total of 158 recipients, 27 graduated, 123 are still attending and 8 did not finish. Elementary School: Total of 5 recipients, 3 graduated and 2 are still attending. It should be noted that from the thirteen student, who did not finish, at least three students moved from the area and one had to start working due to the death of the father.

We expect to have 174 Scholarship applicants next year, which will require $42,200 to sponsor all students and leave no child behind. With the funding shortfall of this year, I would remind everybody that it is never too late to give a donation to the Starfish Scholarship Program. Any amount is welcome!
