At the beginning of the summer (2009) the administration of the Scholarship program transitioned from Roger Dennison to Bernd Braun.  Bernd has been actively involved in the Scholarship program for a number of years, so it has been a very smooth transition.  The 2009 Scholarship campaign is well underway as students are preparing to return to school.  Since its beginning in 2005, the program has made a tremendous impact on the community.  The number of students benefitting from the scholarship program has grown from 19 in 2005 to 153 students in need of scholarships for the 2009/10 school year.  Nine students plan to attend University/Technical School, 12 Preparatory  (10th - 12th grade), 131 Secondary (7th - 9th grade) and 1 Elementary School.  Each year a large majority of our scholarship students progress onto the next grade level – an opportunity that would not be there for them without the Scholarship program.

Our goal is to leave no child behind and provide scholarships for all 153 students.  In order to achieve this goal, we are in need of donations.  It costs only $200 per year to sponsor a child in Secondary School and $450 for a child in Preparatory/University.  If you decide to sponsor a child for a full year (i.e., a full scholarship), you will receive a short biography of the child with a picture.  Any donation to the Scholarship Program is welcome.  You can donate by mailing a check and marking in the memo section that it is for a Scholarship:

Nothing is more important than education!  Help us with your donation and invest in the future of a child.   If you have any questions or would like to have more information on the Scholarship program, please contact Bernd Braun at 972-342-8092 or via e-mail texaskraut@verizon.net.

Earlier this summer, in June, Rich, Bernd and others from the Arrow Outreach Board went to Ciudad Juarez to visit with the people there.  During that visit they were able to attend the graduation services at the Socorro Rivera Elementary School.  They also had to opportunity to meet with some of the scholarship recipients.
