Tocando Puertas

In May of 2007 a sandy brush covered hill lay barren in the Loma Blanca region east of Juarez, Mexico.   In June of 2007 Arrow Outreach partnered with Pastor Jesus Nunez to begin transforming this open hill side into a Community Center named Tocando Puertas (Open Hands).  At the same time several small homes were built surrounding the Tocando Puertas Center.  Two years later a facility of three buildings (a clinic, cafeteria and educational training) is home to the following ministries and community services.

                * A church with services, Sunday school, Bible studies and youth activities.

                * An elementary through high school accelerated education program to the area’s children.

                * Adult and child education programs in English, computer training, sewing instruction, music and instrument classes,    hair cutting and handicraft skills.

                * A family clinic with basic medical services, as well as hygiene and health classes.   They occasionally host visiting medical teams from the United States.

                * Clothing distribution

                * Youth and sports activities

                * Special family and fiesta days.

                *A daily feeding program for students and their families.

                * Food distribution to the community.

                * Family night activities for the community.

With the drug cartel war beginning in January of 2008 in Juarez and continuing until the present, Tocando Puertas, led by Pastor Jesus and his wife Lety, has continued to operate and minister to the community.  In the midst of all the violence, security has been high and precautions are being taken to create a relatively safe and nurturing environment in the midst of turmoil.  Future plans are in effect for expanded programs including a Pastoral Bible training school, but are currently on hold until the situation in the city stabilizes.
